Foods to Avoid While on a Low Cholesterol Diet

If you are on a low cholesterol diet you know that there are many foods that you are supposed to avoid. The bottom line is that if you want to reach all of your goals there are some foods that you will simply have to stay away from. Of course you can bend the rules every once in a while, but all in all you have to stick to your guns. It is very important to know what foods to avoid before you start your low cholesterol diet. After all, if you are going to start a diet you might as well do it right.





Animal Fats

Products that come from animals are a major source of saturated fat. For this reason you will want to avoid them if you are on a low cholesterol diet.  This includes foods such as cheese, ice cream, milk, and butter.  Saturated fat is also found in a wide variety of meats, so be sure to cut back on this area of your diet as well.  Again, you do not have to get rid of everything that you currently eat, but you will have to cut back quite a bit.

Trans Fatty Acids

Trans fatty acids are also known as hydrogenated fat.  Generally speaking, these fats come about during the food manufacturing process, and are most common in fast food restaurants. So as you can imagine, if you are on a low cholesterol diet you should try to avoid fast food joints at all costs. If you do not, you will end up taking in too many trans fatty acids on a regular basis. Not only can this raise your overall blood cholesterol level, but too much can also cause other health problems as well.

Avoiding foods that are high in saturated fat is very important if you are on a low cholesterol diet.  The better you are at avoiding saturated fat the better chance you have of success with your low cholesterol diet.  Remember, you can break the rules sometime.  Just because you are on a low cholesterol diet does not mean that you cannot eat anything that you like. But with that being said you need to make sure that you watch what you eat so that you do not stray to far away from your goals.
